FAQ

Comparatii Policarbonat vs acrylic

Why is polycarbonate so popular?

It's easy and because of this, less labour and logistics are needed. It is effortless to fit and can successfully replace the use of glass, with up to 250 times the durability of glass, so it is ideal for windows, roofs, walls and more. It's more scratch resistant than glass, and if clear polycarbonate is used, it distributes light without overheating the interior.

What is the lifetime of polycarbonate?

With proper care, polycarbonate should last at least a decade.

Polycarbonate vs Lexan?

Many people don't realise this, but Lexan is a brand name for polycarbonate. As the most popular brand of polycarbonate, it is often used interchangeably when referring to polycarbonate sheets.

How is polycarbonate cleaned?

It is recommended to use a mild, antistatic detergent (not containing ammonia, as this will stain and damage the polycarbonate) together with a soft, clean microfibre cloth.

Is Polycarbonate the same as Acrylic?

No, is not. Acrylic is a completely different material from polycarbonate. In comparison, polycarbonate is stronger and less impact resistant.

How to clean acrylic sheet?

It is recommended to use a mild, anti-static detergent (not containing ammonia, as this will stain and damage the acrylic board) together with a soft, clean microfibre cloth.

What are the benefits of acrylic over glass?

Acrylic is more impact resistant, lighter, does not crack, can be thermoformed easily and is easier to manufacture.

Is polycarbonate safe to use as walls?

Polycarbonate is a great option for both interior and exterior walls! The multi-walled product is very energy efficient due to its excellent insulation properties and is aesthetically attractive. The products are robust enough for domestic, commercial, hospitality or industrial projects. Polycarbonate's color and opacity options add to its versatility for homes, extensions, lean-tos, garages, hotels, factories and any other structure you can dream of.

How strong is a polycarbonate board?

It is one of the most rigid forms of plastic you can find. Polycarbonate sheets offer incredible strength, among other alternatives. It's almost 250 times stronger than glass and 30 times stronger than acrylic.

Can we use polycarbonate sheets outdoors?

Yes, polycarbonate can be used for both indoor and outdoor applications - it retains its transparency despite weathering, such as exposure to sun and wind, thanks to UV protective coatings.

Is polycarbonate flammable?

The short answer is yes: the flame extinguishes itself. Simply put, you would need another fuel to maintain the burn. This is an important distinction for specific applications such as public transport or aviation.

How do we recognise a solid polycarbonate board?

There are many features to a trained eye that differentiate polycarbonate from other plastics, and the easiest way is the blue-violet glow on the edge of the material, which is unique to solid polycarbonate. On a more technical level, you can identify polycarbonate by its heating properties - it doesn't burn, whereas acrylic does not have this characteristic. On a mechanical level, polycarbonate is virtually indestructible, so you can do a fun science experiment and throw polycarbonate tiles on a rock or concrete - if it doesn't break, it's most likely polycarbonate.
